For years now, my favorite tagline is to “Find Joy in the Journey.” I truly believe you can find happiness in even the smallest of things along this journey called life. Starting today, every Monday I’ll share some of my favorite “Finding Joy in the Journey” moments.
1. YIPPEE! I’ve been renovating my bedroom for almost three months now and it’s almost finished! I really wish I had a before shot–can you believe I didn’t even think to take one! We’ve been in this hour for over 10 years I when we first moved in I decorated in the heavy, dark colors in a rustic, Italian style. The walls were green, the bedspread was dark crimson red and there were brown curtains that covered almost an entire wall. I loved my bedroom and thought I’d never change the decor. Then November set in and I decided I wanted to lighten up my world. I went on a frenzy changing everything about it.
Please note before you check out the pictures that this is still a work in progress and I still have more cool stuff to add to the room. But–I can’t wait to give you a sneak peak:
The color palette for the room was taken from the chevron quilt (at the foot of my bed) that my mom made for me. I mixed shabby chic with industrial farmhouse with modern styles. (Note that these pictures were taken a few weeks ago and I’ve added a new comforter cover and a cool burlap “end of bed” bench. I’ll share new pics soon!) I love how the mirrored bed stands, burlap and titanium lamps, old barn wood frames and sleek wayne’s coating oddly work together.
It’s kinda hard to tell from this picture but I used a gray wash on the wooden oak floors. Also, I took this chair from my previous room (now you can see the colors I used to have) and the ottoman from another chair and had them slipcovered.
Here’s the “before:”
And heres’s the “after:”
I love using what I already have and making it feel new again. If you live in the Utah Valley area, the gal who made my slipcovers is amazing. You should give her a try and tell her Lisa B. sent you! Go here to see more of her work.
She also made these slipcovers for my parson chairs in my computer nook:
I promise to share more pictures of the completed room soon! I also have to give a shoutout to these pretty amazing interior decorators who got inside my head and made sense of all my wild ideas! Be sure to check out The Grande Design.
2. All-time Favorite Quote:
“Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he’s been robbed. The fact is that most putts don’t drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to just be people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. Life is like an old time rail journey … delays … sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride.” –Gordon B. Hinckley
3. This is the tree outside my window. I’m so excited because I can detect just a small amount of spring! Anyone else got Spring Fever??? I can hardly wait for all the white blossoms to appear!
Tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday I’ll share more HSN products (there is so much new, new, new) plus another giveaway on Wednesday. Plus–I’ll share another Brecken’s Blissful Bite on Friday.
Find Joy in the Journey!
P.S. Three weeks from today is the big 24 hour craft day on HSN!
