My Friend, Becky Higgins
Almost ten years ago, my mom was sitting by a young lady at church who was the nanny for one of her neighbors. She began chatting with her, asking if she knew anyone who would be a good nanny to help her daughter who was starting a business. My mom was worried about me because I was about to have my third child and Creating Keepsakes magazine had just published its third issue. She knew I needed help. The young gal asked what I did and when my mom said "she started a scrapbook magazine" she said "is it Lisa Bearnson?" Well--the rest is history. The young girl's name was (and still is!) Becky Higgins and my mom shared some of her sample pages with me. I loved her style, used her as a freelance page designer for several months, then hired her full time.
Little did we know what an incredible icon she'd become in the scrapbooking industry. Her books are best sellers, her articles so meaningful and her scrapbooking style timeless.
While I don't see Becky as often as I'd like, I've had the opportunity to spend some time with her over this past weekend (first in Boston for CKU and today in Utah for meetings). I really wish you all could get to know Becky the way I know her. She's unpretentious, a loyal friend and a person who'd help anyone in need. Plus her creativity blows me away at times. I am honored and blessed to call her friend.
Today, take the opportunity to thank a friend who has made a difference in your life. Pick up the phone, write a note or best yet make a scrapbook page to honor your special relationship. Thanks, BH, for making a difference in mine.

You guys look great! :) And I agree with Corinne! I think we're led to people who help us learn and grow. You and Becky have definitely helped my scrapbooking! I really loved your family album book (especially after you autographed it for me), and I look forward to seeing more!
God Bless,
Colleen
I've always LOVED Becky's style, I get so inspired every time I read something of hers!
I admit, when I get a CK, the first place i always turn to is the sketches article, and I hunt down anything else by her in the mag. She has wonderful, fabulous ideas. :oD
What a beautiful picture...and story! Special people are placed in our lives for a reason. Becky really is a sweetheart!
Love the picture Lisa! I have always wanted to meet Becky. I love her work.
LOVE... LOVE... the Our Family Albums issue. Thank you for the inspiration!
I know we meet people for a reason. What a great mini album idea!
Becky is definitely my favorite scrapbooking "celebrity" (next to you of course:)
I just heard about her new Family History book and must pre-order it! Can you convince Becky to do a blog for us?
What a heartwarming story! My mantra is, "Everything happens for a reason!" How true in this case as well! Thank you, for giving your readers a glimpse into this happy twist of fate.
Awww, what sweet things to say about your friend!
I got to meet Becky (and her parents) earlier this summer in MD. What a sweet hearted person she is.
My special relationship is my sister...and even though i dont get to see her often, she is my best friend.
You guys are very lucky to have found each other it is a blessing!! Hugs Wanda
I'll pass on the Becky Higgins blog idea to her! Hopefully we can convince her to start one.

Frends are what make life worth living.
That is such a neat story about how you met. Love it!
Hi everyone. It's Becky. I adore you, Lisa Bearnson! You're a sweetheart. And don't you guys agree that this is one of the best pictures of Lisa?? WOW - someone mentioned how "natural" she looked. I agree! It's her youthful smile, fabulous hair day (every day is a good hair day for Lisa), and I agree on the cute shirt. Seriously, you look great. We certainly don't get to spend enough time together. Give a big hug to your mom for me when you see her next!
Ok Becky... so now it is your turn. We want a blog!
I have been a big fan of yours since day one. You are amazing yourself.
I do agree with you.. I have yet to see a bad picture of Lisa. I must say that
I have never seen a bad one of you either. You both are just to cute!
Thank you for your constant inspiration!
( I knew Brent Kennedy in High School... small world huh? Do you ever make it to Idaho Falls?)
Inspiration comes many forms. Thanks to you and Becky for being my inspiration. Not only are your pages & ideas inspiring but so are the many thoughts & stories you share. Both of you are so willing to show the values you stand for. I appreciate that as it is very important to me.
I am very blessed to have friends who have made a difference in my life and I love reminding them of this.
Lisa I was so excited when I found out you had a blog because just a few days before I was wondering how to convince you to start one.
What an inspiration you and Becky are and I whole heartedly agree that now we need to convince Becky to start a blog, it's a great way to stay connected.
I got the pink shirt several years ago (can't remember where). It's one of those shirts that I wore, forgot I had, and now I'm wearing it again!
Thanks for the compliments!
WOW!! I never knew that is how you two met! What an awesome story!! Keep scrappin girls!!!
This is just a sort-of-related comment: Scrapbooking draws together such an amazing group of people. From you and BH to all of the interesting people who post to your blog. I like reading their comments as much as yours!!
I've been scrapbooking for 3 years.I must say that I am waaay behind because my famly keeps getting bigger - my fifth grandchild is due in December. I've been reading CK magazines since I started scrapping. They are so inspirational and creative. Lisa's blog is the first blog I have EVER read. What strikes me most is the love she has for family and friends and how her faith guides her.
Lisa--I am so sorry Kristy has "retired." Does that mean she isn't going on the CK Cruise in Oct.? Speaking of the cruise -- NONE of us has received ANY info. about the CK classes, schedule, what to bring, where to go, when to eat, who will be there, etc. Some people are getting upset on the CK Cruise msg. board. We had been told that we would receive this info. at least a month before the cruise. My dh and I are leaving in 2 wks. to travel in Italy before the cruise. Do you think we will get the info. from CK before we leave? If we don't, how will I know where to go and when on that huge ship? I haven't been on a cruise and am feeling somewhat intimidated by not knowing what to do to find the CK people on board, with no prior information. I am very excited about going and especially about meeting YOU. TIA for any help!
