Wild Weekend in Vegas!
Five months ago, my hubby gave me the best anniversary gift ever! A trip to Vegas to see Josh Grobin in concert. The long awaited night finally came last Saturday and wow--what a night! If you even remotely like Josh Grobin, be sure to go (no run) to his concert. He's charming, funny, and his voice sounds better in real life than it does on recordings. Best of all, listening to the tunes of Josh Grobin is the most romantic night ever. My hubby and I loved it! And--look what my dear friend, Terese Taylor, got for me! An autographed poster. What a wonderful keepsake!
So, what else do you do in Vegas if you don't drink or gamble? We had all day Saturday to ourselves (our friends, the Williams, came too). We went to a movie ("The Last Mimzy" --okay but not my favorite) and then to "In and Out Burger" (best burger and fries I've ever had--they don't have these in Utah). Then we went to a fascinating exhibit called Bodies. (I guess this exhibition is going all over the United States.) People have actually donated their bodies to science and they have used a process to preserve them so you can see how the inside of body works (bones, muscles, veins, organs, etc.). I got a little sick to my stomach at the end--I was thinking too hard about what I'd seen over the past few hours. But--it was so worth going. It's really made me stop and think about how I'm taking care of my body (like how bad greasy fries are for your body).
We ended our day around midnight (that's when the concert got over). I had to direct my church choir the next morning for the Easter program so we drove all night, got home at 7:00 a.m., went to bed for two hours and made it to the church by 10:00 a.m. Whew--I still haven't caught up on my sleep.
Hope your Easter weekend was great. And--I'd love to hear of some good concerts you've been too. (The best entertainer I've ever seen is Barry Manillo--he really was terrific in concert. The worst was Elton John! I love his voice but he sang songs I'd never heard and he wasn't entertaining.) I'm always looking for a fun night out.

Lisa,
Are you sure the exhibit wasn't called BodyWorlds? It is so cool. I'm so glad to hear that it's traveling the states! It really makes you mindful of how wonderfully and amazingly we are created.
My wife and I saw Josh Groban 2 years ago in Oklahoma City. So worth the $145 for floor seats. Chris Botti was his opening act. We live in Bartlesville, OK and OKC is about 2.5 hours and we drove home right after the concert. He was absolutley awesome.
It was too funny, though. There were two older ladies (probably in their 70's) who kept saying that they couldn't understand him. They finally asked my wife if he was singing in a different language. She answered them yes and he was in Italian. They asked her why he was doing that? She didn't have an answer.
I was visiting Las Vegas for the first time last year. I am the greatest fan of Celine Dion and my husband took me to see in concert at the Ceasar Palace. Wow! Wow! Wow! I admit she would sing the alphabet and I would be amazed but my husband is not a fan and he was amazed by her show. I recommend it but hurry it is her last year!

Hi Lisa
That is so awesome - what a great anniversary gift!! Happy belated Anniversary to you & Steve.
I am so impressed with you! You continue to be such a positive role model! Thank you for that!! I am so impressed (and happy) that you don't drink and gamble. So few people live life that way!! My husband and I don't drink either and many people don't understand that!
The best concert we've been to was Brooks & Dunn - okay we've only been to two, but they were very entertaining!
Would love to see your Family Easter pictures!! We took our picture in the snow (BURR!!).
Hopefully you guys got to enjoy your Easter (I'm sure you were exhausted!).
God Bless!!
Cindy
Sounds like you had a great time. My hubby surprised me with Josh Groban tickets 2 years ago and it was the best concert I've ever been to.
: ) Smiles!
hi lisa,
Happy to hear you had a great time at the concert.
In october we were in vegas and we seen the bodies exibit. It was so cool. I liked the part with the smoke filled lungs and then the big container for you to throw your carton of ciggarettes away. I hoped it helped a lot of people quit. Didn't work for my hubby but i'm sure it helped some.
The worst part was the babies. Intriguing but still very sad.
Hope you are having a great day.
There's the Ethel M Chocolate Factory (its the gourmet side of M&M Mars) where you can take a tour and get a sample or two. There's also the Jet-Puffed Marshmallow factory there, they give tours as well. Then its always fun to watch the Bellagio fountain, take a gondola ride at the Venetian, stuff like that.
Hello! I bet Josh Groban was awesome! Celine in Vegas was the best for me! She does an awesome show.
My husband and I went to see the christian rock band Third Day for our anniversary about 4 years ago. We didn't know it until we arrived, but they had two other bands open up for them. I was a little worried about the seating because I had recently injured my foot (I am a MAJOR clutz)and was worried that if there were people seated in front of us standing during the concert, I would either miss some of it because I was sitting, or would have to stand and deal with the pain. But when we got there and realized we were the first row in the stands, I was so happy. I was able to sit most of the time and not have to worry about seeing at all. We rarely get well known christian rock bands out here (I live in NY) so it was exciting to be able to only have to travel 3 hours to see one. It was an awesome time.
In-n-Out burgers rule! We went to SF & the innkeeper was dumbfounded when I asked where the nearest In-n-Out was! With all the restaurants in SF, you want In-n-Out???? LOL!
My daughter really liked the the bodies exhibit.
I'm glad that you enjoyed the concert! He's great!
Another vote for Celine!!! Hands down the BEST. Her voice will give you goosebumps. Her show is amazing!!
I work at the Jungle Cruise at Disney, that's where I saw him in person. :-) He was with his friends, in my friend's boat. She said his friends were very immature. But he seemed very nice. By the time I realize it was him (it's so hard to figure out celebrities sometimes) he walked too far for me to take a good look at it. :-D
I'm so jealous... I know Josh must have put on a fabulous concert. My cousin saw him in Dallas a couple of weeks ago and said it was wonderful.
For me the best person I have ever seen in concert is Neil Diamond and I have seen him 7 times since 1978 with the last time last year for my birthday. He puts on a fabulous show and it is worth every penny I pay to see him.
My bunko group has been wanting to go see Barry Manilow in Vegas... we're hoping to go see him later this year. His music is so much fun... I know he would put on a good show, too!
I'm with you... when you pay the money for a concert you want it to be a fun night!

I to am jealous, you lucky lady I live in New Zealand, and pray one day Josh will grace us with his presence. Last year I was lucky to see Donny Osmond I have been a fan from way back in the 70's. And I was seated 2nd row right in front of his mike stand I cried, I felt like I was 13 yrs old again, best part was when he came into the crowd, and I got to touch him all my dreams came true. best concert to date.Lesley Bryant.
I hate to disagree with you but I LOVE seeing Elton John live. I've been to 7, maybe 8, of his concerts...I've lost count. Get a hold of some of his earlier CDs to get familiar with the music. It's hard not to get into it after a few listens.
Lisa--what a wonderful birthday present! I've never seen Josh in concert, I missed him here in Rochester recently.
Is your friend Terese the radio personality here in Rochester on WARM 101.3?!?! I know she worked on the big scrapbook day for charity that was in CK's Top 10 issue. I hear her all the time on the radio!
Harry Connick Jr. is one of my fav concerts--I've seen him 3 times, and now he is touring again!
I would highly recommend the Celtic Woman show. Hubby & I saw them last year when the came to our town and they will be here again in 2 weeks with their new show. It was just so beautiful. I was in tears sometimes because of the beauty and harmony. Well worth the price and makes a beautiful memory!
What a great anniversary gift, sounds like you both had a wonderful time.
I've actually been to two wonderful, entertaining concerts. One was Garth Brooks but since he is retired I don't think any of us will be able to see him in concert anymore. But if there was any chance again that he would I would be the first one in line to buy tickets.
The second was Martina McBride's "The Joy of Christmas". My husband, sister and I took my mom to see her as her birthday present and it was so much fun we are planning to go see her again this year. She incorporates her whole family (her husband, and her three little girls) into the show, and she interacts with the audience. At the one point she actually invited all the kids' up on stage to sing Christmas carols with her and at the end they got a small little gift from her. It's defiantly a family show so take your whole family, you'll all have a blast.
Viva' Las Vegas!
Sounds like great fun! Yes, some do not realize there is so much to do, especially if you don't gamble.
Being from Cally, when I lived in Oregon, the first thing I would do is go to In & Out (at the airport!!!) as that's how much I missed it. I had the pleasure of treating my new mother to one when she came to visit me during Springbreak - her first in about 20 years.
I actualy had the best time at an Elton John concert BUT it was Elton John & Billy Joel on dualing pianos!!! As if was the youngest at the time (only 24 or 25 when we went) to be honest, I didn't think I would know much of the music but boy was I surprised when I was singing tunes that I didn't even know was in me?! :)
Lisa,
I am so glad that you were able to make it back. What about that crazy Easter weather we had, though?
By far, I think that Jim Brickman is the best concert. I have been to almost every concert he has done in Salt Lake since he started doing concerts. He is just amazing.
How cool to get to see Josh Groban in concert! Awesome anniversary present. I think my favorite that I have attended is a toss up between Harry Connick Jr. and George Strait! Sorry to say the worst concert I have ever been to was Whitney Houston. However, this was back in the 80's when she was big. It was a very disappointing concert.
I had the pleasure of hearing Josh at the Staples Center in LA a few weeks ago. He is an amazing young man--talent and character.
Love you blog, and everything you do! My favorite concert was and is U2. They always play the classic music I know, and much more! I will never outgrow those concerts. Although I always feel a bit silly dancing all around, but you have to do it! It's just part of the experience. It's amazing how you have four kids but still feel too young to be grown up! Glad I found you blog.
Laura
I'm sure it was an excellent concert. I've seen quite a few concerts in the last year or so, including The Rolling Stones, Elton John, U2, Coldplay, The Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo, Bruce Springsteen, etc. It's hard to pick who was better but I'd have to say that the "hard working" bands/singers are always the best. So I guess my vote is Bruce Springsteen, Blue Rodeo and Coldplay.
I grew up in Southern CA when there was just one In n Out! Love it, too! The original store only hired boys and they had to be A students. (Need to take a trip to get a burger now!)lol
Hey there YOU!
I love your blog.
Mine is not as good as yours…
You are so inspiring.
So you are the Ward Choir Director too.I am as well. I am so glad Easter Sunday is over. I am also the Enrichment Leader. Tons of work.
I love that you have a Josh Groban autograph. That is way cool.
I was wondering if you were going to the Scrapbook Expo this weekend.
If you were I was going to stop and say HI!
Hope to see you.
~Debbie
Remember if you need any help with anything just let me know
I love Josh's voice.I'm like you when Vegas what does a non drinker non gambler do? I went to the Shark Reef. It was great.
Ok I'm only in my late 40's but the best concet I've been to is Frank Sanatra. Even though I don't have any of his records I wanted to go because when I would visit my uncle in NJ all he sound was Frank S. songs he was a huge fan. So when Frank broke out singing New York New York.. I could also hear my uncle singing along it's a memory I will always have of my uncle.

LOVE watching Josh Groban in concert. He was in Vancouver WA and I watched the concert with my parents and my sister. Her hubby and my hubby stayed home with the kids (which was really sweet). Sounds like you had a whirlwind trip. Glad you made it back!
Hugs,

hello..I have been waiting for your scrapbooking on qvc...but to date have not seen (on qvc's schedule) a scheduled time slot..are they not having scrapbooking anymore ???
thanks
chris
the bodies exhibit is going on in Seattle too right now. someone actually stole one of the organs...can you imagine??? luckily it was recently found and returned to the exhibit.
there is something about live music that is fantastic. We've recently started sharing this with our older son (age 14) and our taste in music is vastly different probably from yours...but it's fun that he's into the music of the 80's...Styx, Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, along with Guns N Roses and Rush. :)
Live music and Live theater... there is nothing better. :) Glad you had fun in Vegas, you should have taken in a show like "O" (amazing water cirque du soleil)or one of the other cirque shows.
Hi LIsa,
I also love Josh Grobin and saw him in Philadelphia in concert..WOW, he is great! What an amazing voice for his age! Glad you had a great time...I love him too!
Josh was here in NC the middle of March. We had seen him when he was here over a year ago and decided it was a must to go and see him. We bought the tickets in late Nov.
Well, the Saturday before Christmas I fell and suffered 2 compression fractures of my spine. At the beginning of March I wasn't sure that I would get to go to the concert, but was hopeful.
I did go and he was terrific. The show was terrfic. I love that you have a signed poster.
If you have a chance to see Celtic Women take advantage of it.
Take care
Karen
i saw elton john in dubai and he was fabulous - such a small venue, it made you feel like you were lounging on the lawn in his back yard!
otherwise, bryan adams never fails to put on an amazing concert. saw him in dubai as well.
Sounds like you had a great time! A few years ago, my husband rented a limo and took me to see Barry Manilow in Florida. Not only is Barry a great entertainer but he is also from my hometown of Brooklyn, NY.
My daughter's name is Amanda and when he played Mandy...my wonderful husband stood up and start slow dancing with me. The people next to us asked why the song was special to us and we told them and they all thought it was so cute of us to be dancing. One old man in the back complained but we ignored it...I guess he didn't appreciate a loving couple.
I was able to see Josh Groban the night before you did when he was in San Diego-he was AMAZING!! I am thinking of seeing him again in August when he swings back around Southern CA again. Happy belated Anniversary! Can't wait until May 5th to see you on QVC!
What a great anniversary gift indeed! I got to see Josh in concert last month and I LOVED every minute of it. That man's voice is amazing. He is truly gifted! I took some really cool shots (I was lucky that they didn't take my camera away, LOL) from the front row...I'd be happy to share some copies of the pics I took with you...(and I also have some copies to send you from the pictures I took of you with Stacy Julian's baby at CHA last January) let me know if you'd like to have me e-mail you a shutterfly folder with these pics too :)
I've never posted on your site, Lisa - but I always read. I wanted to just say that I agree that Barry Manilow is an incredible performer. I had the opportunity to sing back-up for him with about 25 other high school students (2 of those 25 were my brother & sister!)! He only took one group picture after the whole fiasco was over and there were no autographs. But watching him perform was exciting. Being on stage & performing with him was amazing! Practicing the songs backstage & realizing how important it was that we didn't flub up was daunting. And it all made me want to be a famous singer.
And I am famous - to my children, and that's what matters most.
I would love to see Josh Grobin. LOVE his music.
By far my favorite concert was the Barenaked Ladies when they were promoting their "Stunt" album. It was DH & my first date - very memorable. (And by far my favorite band...)
Natalie in Nebraska
You are so lucky to have had the chance to see Josh in concert. I just love hearing him sing. He truly has an amazing voice. Someday, I hope I am able to see him sing live.
I've seen many concerts, but one of my favorites was U2, it was an amazing show, we were lucky enough to be chosen to see the concert from the inner circle, so having Bono in arms length was pretty amazing, and knowing and hearing him talk about we are all one, is so powerful.
