I've Been Crying all Morning!!

I know I'm crazy but I dread the first day of school. Today was the day. The house is eerily quiet. No more little Sage being my little shadow during the day (she's really into eyelets and making cool things out of them in my scrapbook room--I miss the sound of the pounding hammer!). She's at school full time now for the next 12 plus years. No more sound of the blender whirling as Brecken's whipping up her latest smoothy concoction. No more funny 13-year-old obnoxious "Collin" sounds or Collin's voice asking if I have any chores that need to be done (he asks me EVERY day--what a kid). No more loud music from Kade's stereo or asking what we have to eat.

I MISS THEM! Only three more hours to find out how their first day went. Who did they play with at recess? Was their lunch I packed okay? Were they embarrassed by my hidden notes? How do they like their teacher? Any cute girls in the boys classes (I can guarantee I won't get an answer from this one!)?

Next week will be better. I'll get use to the silence. I'll enjoy a little cleaner house. I'll be happy there's a bedtime and schedule again.

My friend and neighbor, Allison Norton, made it a little easier. She hosted a little party this morning at 10:00 a.m. for all the moms in the neighborhood. It was fun to get together. Let me know how you cope with that first week of school! I'd love to hear!

By the way, last night I was ironing (my least favorite chore) all my kids new first-day-of school clothes and pulled off tags all the tags. I had a little pile and thought "what a fun photo." Just had to share it with you. (We only got one new outfit each. The girls wear uniforms and the boys just don't really care about new clothes!)

Now to answer a few of your questions from past posts:

1. Some of you asked about the looms to make baby hats that Collin used with his Eagle project. You mentioned wanting to do it as a service project in your area. I have a couple left. If you'd like one, contact Angela at Angeladash@gmail.com.

2. Where can you find vinyl for the Silhouette? It's available at signwarehouse.com. Order the Oracle Vinyl 631 Exhibition--it's repositionable and won't take paint, etc. off your walls. Also, Quickutz will selling a wonderful vinyl made for the Silhouette this fall.

3. What was the font used for the Bearnson Est. 1989 vinyl cling that was showcased on QVC? Georgia (I think it's a Microsoft font).

4. Cricut vs. Silhouette. Which do you prefer? They are both excellent electronic cutting machines. The Sihouette doesn't require a cartridge--you can cut any true type font or clipart image that you have loaded on your computer. However, it does require a PC. The Cricut doesn't require a computer but does require cartridges for shapes and fonts.

5. You can use the Sihouette in with the Mac if you have a program such as Illustrator that you can use it with. Also, will the Silhouette cut felt and cloth? Sorry--haven't tried it yet but I'd suppose it would since it cuts even thicker materials.

6. Where do you find Paper Mache letters like you showed on QVC (with the word GIVE)? My friend, Carrie Heaphy, created those adorable letters. I'm sure she found them at her local craft store in Montana.

7. Where is Kristy Banks? Is she going to start designing again? I was just with Kristy last Friday and she is 100% enjoying being a full-time mom. So--no plans right now to see more Kristy designs. I'll tell her she's missed!

I think that's it for the questions.

I'll get back to my tissues and crying!!

Thanks for listening!

Hi Lisa, I know how you feel. The 1st day or week is the hardest. My 2 boys are 15 & 11 and I know it won't be too much longer before they are out of school, so I try to enjoy it while I can. We are expecting a little girl in January, so we will be starting all over with her in 5-6 years. Oh boy!! Thanks for answering all those questions, they were a huge help! Have a great day!!

Lisa,
the first day of school was always hard for me no matter how old my children were but I guess it prepared me for the time now when they have all graduated, started families and now we have our twins on missions in Brazil. Yes, both were called to 2 different areas but the same country. We miss then so much. Just think of this time as prep time for you. Have a really great day and big hugs to them when they get home..

Hi Lisa,
My son started school last April in group 1 when he became 4. Yesterday the new schoolyear started. So today was his second day. For real in group 1. On this second day he told me he wants to stay in group 1. He doesn't want to go to Group 2. Because in group 1 he can play and everything is easy ...

Tonight he asked if there is a group 29 ...

What comes after group 1? Group 2 and 3, 4, 5, 6,7,8. Then you're 12 years old and you go to high school. And after that? After that you can go to university. I don't want to go to university, I want to stay in group 1, because ... yes, he can play and everything is easy ...

All I can say to myself is that he is growing up way to fast (don't they all?). If I had a choice he could stay forever in group 1. But I know realistically it is not an option. All I can is promise myself that we will be with him every step of the way. To help, to comfort and to love him no matter what he choses in life. And that he doesn't have to go to university if he doesn't want to.

Hi Lisa, hope you didn't use up all the tissues and that the children have had a great first day back at school. Ours don't go back for another two weeks :)

Wow...we don't start school for another 2+ weeks. Currently I can't wait for it to start...but I know once it does it will be very lonely around these parts. (perfect time to get those holiday projects underway!).

Our school holds a 1st day tea (or coffee/hot choc. etc) which I think is a great idea, but honestly I'm usually in tears so I don't go (too embarrassed).

Thank you so much for sharing your info...got my TSV today! what timing. :)

We'll miss you at the Seattle CKC this year (I fondly remember last y ear and singing Happy Birthday to your Dad).

I can't imagine sending my babes out into the "world". I'd be crying too. My boy just turned 4 and I have to start thinking preschool. So it's going to happen sooner than later to let go a bit. Until than I am enjoying every minute of him just being home.

I Love the photo of all the tags. I love how scrapbookers think outside the box and take photos of different things no one would ever think to take a photo of. Super cool pix Lisa!

Loved ya on QVC and I bought some supplies as well including your 4th book.......whooo hoo ....can't wait to get all the fun supplies at my door.

Thanks for making the scrapfair fun!

Your empty nest from 9-3 will pass. Enjoy the time for you! I have a true full time empty nest with young adults, working and living on their own. The time went SO FAST. Enjoy being there for them as they get older. yup.... Teens need you more at home then toddlers do. M-TV's survey just came out today. Parents rock sometimes!
PS... miss those school prep times though so went out today and bought stuff to fill two school backpacks. Sure felt good to donate those to the local schools.

I'm right there with ya...my two boys start school tomorrow and the littlest starts kindergarten next week...not sure if I'm ready for a quiet house since I have had at least one kid under my feet for the last ten years so this is truly a transition for me. Not sure what I'm going to do with myself, but I will thuroughly enjoy a cleaner house (I hope) and maybe I can actually find time to scrapbook!

Bawling is great therapy! I've cried every year since my two started Pre-K 3!!! They start 2nd and Kindergarden next week and I'm already getting that "knot" in my stomach just thinking about it! I guess it's just the fact realizing they're another year older...I'd love for time to stand still in this point of our lives! We're starting a women's bible study on "The Power of a Praying Parent". SO IMPORTANT that we're praying daily for our children and family. I loved seeing your family's "huddle" before school every morning in your end-of-year video. Y'all have got it going on, Bearnsons!!! Have a great week! :)

My daughter begins first grade next week, and I too am DREADING that first week of school. I'm glad that Kristy Banks is enjoying life as a SAHM, but she is deeply missed. She should really think about publishing a book with just her layouts. I know it would be very popular. Every time, I get together with my scrapping buddies, one of us is scrap-lifting one of her awesome designs.

Hi Lisa,

I'm from Georgia--my son started Aug 6th.(third grade) Today is picture day!
But, yeah--I hate the first day of school too. The summers are so carefree and fun and no bed times!

Also, wanted to say I really love watching you on QVC. I made 3 purchases on the 14th--just got them yesterday and can't wait to use them. Love Everything! Do you think you could get Ali to do some selling on QVC?--she's WONDERFUL!! Such an INSPIRATION!!!

Crying right there with you! Our kids first day was today. Sob, sob. I hate the first month!

Too funny! I took a pix of the tag pile as well. That is very funny.

The only way I will get through this day is that it is only a "half-day" our kids only go until 1:00 on Wednesday, and thank goodness, that was the first day. Whew.

Our "1st day tradition" is warm cookies and milk after school as we talk about the day. Finally, it's time to go make the dough!

Hang in there. MAYBE, next summer will be here before we know it. (And then they will be older. WAAAAAAAA!!!!)

My daughter started Kindergarten Monday. I was sad too. I couldn't dwell on it because I still have a 3 year old at home. I wondered all day long how her day was going. When I picked her up that afternoon, she was very happy. My husband and I asked her all sorts of questions but didn't get many answers. Example: "What did you do today?". Her reply was: "I don't know." "What did you like best?" "Everything!" Today is her third day. I hope she develops a love of school and learning. She is in a wonderful private school with only 10 students in her class. She gets to wear uniforms as well. I miss her though and look forward to all the school breaks.

It is funny, you know, I was anxious all summer for school to start and get back into routine and have the house to myself a few hours a day once more. Then all of a sudden this last weekend as we were up at the cabin in Island Park I suddenly realized that summer was OVER for us! I was so sad. I have never dreaded summer ending until now. I think since my kids are older and all in school all day finally I realized my days will be more quiet, but much much more empty. My baby started 1st grade, no dropping him to the bus early. No one to run to lunch with at Wendy's. So all the while I cheered for my newfound freedom, I was really crying too. Pass the tissues.

But things are getting busier and busier, so now the crying is over and I don't have much time to miss him as much. Hope tomorrow is better! :_KIm K.

((HUGS)) Lisa!

While I was DEFINITELY ready for my five year old daughter to start all day kindergarten, I was very apprehensive when my three year old son started "big boy school." He has special needs and is non-verbal. He can't tell me what kind of day he had. Letting go of his little hand was the hardest thing to do, but it was one of the best things I have done for him. He LOVES his school and his teachers adore him. Last September when term started again, he saw one of his friends and waved to him for the first time! I was SO excited!

I remember the wise words of my grandma when it comes time for school. She and grandpa raised my aunt, who was left mute after a bad bout of encephalitis. There were no special schools back then for kids like my aunt. She told my mom, "Be grateful [your kids] can go." If my aunt had half the services my son has received, she'd be president of the United States today.

On a lighter note- how do you get kids to ASK to do chores? :) What's your secret? :)

God Bless,
Colleen

I thought YES I can do whatever I want, clean the house, make rid of the mess, scrapbook etc. But I don't want to do anything... Have a restless feeling. I will give myself some time to adjust!

Take your time and enjoy!

School starts on Monday for our family. 6 of my 8 kids will be back in the routine. The oldest (19 yesterday!) is working full time and enjoying the first car she bought herself! The youngest is 2 and she will keep me company during the day. I LOVE being back on a schedule - even if it's still hectic with early morning seminary, school soccer and club soccer to go to!

I try to look at the long term picture - these kids will be the parents of my grandchildren - and I just enjoy the ride!

Lisa .... I'm not sure how I'll feel this coming Saturday when I drive my one and only child two states away to her new college dorm, but I do know that I might need to buy stock in the kleenex company. I think the only thing that will get me through this is knowing what a great life building experience this will be for her and how much fun she will have making new friends and experiencing education in a different setting away from home. I'll worry but I trust that I've given her a good upbringing with a strong set of values and morals to build from. Best wishes to you in the coming days while you adjust to the quiet of your home. For me ... I'll continue to work on those scrapbook pages of my daughters youth ... they will keep her close even while she's away.

Lisa, I am TERRIBLY sad too! We took my oldest son to Kansas State (2 1/2 hrs away)last weekend for his first year of college. Let me tell you, IT'S BEEN HARD!!!! I am so proud of him because he knows what he wants to be (an architectural engineer) and he's worked hard in school all his life (excellent student); but it is SO HARD to let him spread his wings! My twins (daughter & son) who are juniors are just two short years from leaving too! All I can say is cherish your kids each and every second of every day; because they fly away too soon!

My son started Kindergarten on Wednesday, August 15. I took 3 days off from work and the thrill to drop him off and wait outside his classroom at 2:15 to pick him up! See where he sat and what was in his cubby. I even volunteered one day and helped in the classroom. Then Monday, I had to go back to work and my son had to do the afterschool program. It's not the same, dropping him off and picking him up from the auditorium. I cried all day Monday. I'm not connected to his classroom now. I'm very sad. I'd give anything to be a full-time stay-at-home mom.

Hey Lisa!
I don't have any kids of my own, but this year was my niece's first year of school. The PTA at her school hosted a "Boo-hoo Breakfast" at the school for all the parents of the Kindergarteners. Is that not the cutest thing ever?! I think it's great! It was catered by a great local bakery and was just a time for the parents to relax and enjoy some fellowship with other boo-hooing parents. :)

I dread the first day of school, too. I love having my children home with me all summer long and I miss them like crazy when school starts each year. I have my 2 yo dd to hang out with during the day though - that should keep me busy enough. It's nice to see a mother who feels like I do - most of my friends are thrilled to get their kids out of their hair.

Now I don't feel like such an "oddball". I know most parents are cheering on the first day of school, but I always dread it. Although I have been sooooooo ready for the first day of school, now that it is here, I am already feeling lonely. This will be my first time in 7 years that all 3 kids are out of the house at the same time. I too look forward to a cleaner house and possibly some "me" time, what's that?! For me I guess it isn't so much the school thing, as it is that my youngest is starting school!!!
