These are the Moments I'll Remember All My Life!

Last night I was up until midnight helping Kade with a homework assignment. I'd put Sage to bed a few hours earlier and since it was an especially warm night (and Steve had already turned on our radiant heat since cold weather is coming) I opened a window in her 2nd floor bedroom to let a little fresh air in. The kids' computer/homework area is in an open part of our house--right outside Sage's room. While we were working, we heard a loud man's shriek outside our house. Kade ran to see what was going on but couldn't see anyone. He then went to check on everyone. My hubby, who was on the bottom floor of our house, didn't hear anything. I soon convinced myself that it was a friend of Kade's playing a practical joke on him. After midnight, I went off to bed while Kade finished up his assignment. He has an early morning class and had to get up at the crack of dawn plus is playing a big football game tonight against the rival school. I was worried about him getting his sleep.

At 4:00 a.m., I woke up to a prompting to go upstairs and check on Sage. I remembered the weird sound outside and then my mind started going crazy thinking maybe something was wrong with Sage. I ran upstairs and got kinda scared when I saw she wasn't in her bed. I looked around and no Sage. I saw the window I'd opened earlier was closed. I ran into Kade's room and there she was--snuggled right next to this 6'1" 190 lb. boy--in a single bed! I noticed how he'd made her a sweet bed on the floor of his room, but she must have gotten scared and crawled in next to him.

I was overcome with pure joy. How amazing that an older brother, after hearing that strange sound, would worry that much over his little six-year-old sister. What true love. I know why I was prompted to go upstairs and check on Sage. It was so I could have this ordinary moment that in years to come will be remembered as a very amazing extrordinary moment.

I took this sweet picture of Sage and Kade a few months ago. Once again, she was snuggled next to Kade as he was reading her a book. He calls her his little Sweetheart and is always spending time with her. Every Sunday, all my friends comment on the incredible relationship that Sage and Kade have. She sits on his lap the entire church meeting.

Just had to share this neat memory. Remember, your ordinary moments will become the best ones of all.

I'm off to Kade's game. Go Knights!

Hi Lisa!

Wow! I LOVE that story!

Those definately are the moments you hold in your heart forever!

I captured a similar moment when my 6 yr old daughter was holding her 5 yr old brother who was sick! It is just the sweetest thing!

My proudest moment is when my children are loving each other!

Thanks for the sweet posting!

Have a great weekend!

Wow, Lisa. You just brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful memory for all of you. Your family sounds so treasured.

I only hope that I am not doing my one and only son an injustice by him being an only child. Due to health factors, it will remain that way. But, he is luved and treasured nontheless.

Thank you for sharing that moment with us.

Hi Lisa,
It is GREAT that your children have such a wonderful bond. I have two boys Scott 17 and Tanner 5. They have their disagreements but sometimes they have these amazing moments that bring a tear to my eye. And each night when they say I love you to each other before bed are the words I love to hear.

Thanks for letting me share special moments.

Your post so reminds me of my 15 year old son and 4 year old DD. Yesterday, on his fall break, he grudingly got up early, and went to her preschool to display and play musical insturments for her class. Only his little sister could have coaxed a grumpy mood 15 year old out of bed on break!

Lisa, I have 7 kids, 5 boys then my 2 girls. We only have the 2 girls at home now but my oldest son was and still is that way with his youngest sisiter. Just like your son is. I remember many wonderful things and times that I can close my eyes and still see like yesterday that he did for her. She sleeped withhim for many years and when he went off to collage it was hard on her but she just went right on to the next brother. The love my kids have for each other is something very important to me. I wanted so much to instill that in them. I'm glade I did that as a mom, and took the time to do that. Beening a military family and moving a lot they only had each other at times. With my kids moving on with their lives now and growning up (something I wish I could stop) those memories hold close to my heart and help me on days when I'm sad their gone...

WOW! What a great way to remind us that, truly, the simple moments are the most meaningful!

I wonder if Sage's future boyfriends know that Daddy may not be the one they have to impress!

Thanks for sharing. What a sweet guy!

Lisa - What an amazingly heartwarming story! I had tears in my eyes as I read it. You are so blessed to have such a beautiful family, although I know you and Steve work very hard to instill such wonderful values in them all. God bless!!

Oh my gosh Lisa I got all teary eyed and scared when I read this. It was so scary and sweet. I would have been freaking out! Sometimes my son goes from the bottom bunk to the top in the middle of the night and I had a scare once when we were camping out in the back yard when I took my daughter inside to use the bathroom early in the morning and it had gotten cold and when I came back out, I DIDN'T HAVE ON MY GLASSES, so I couldn't see a thing, I couldn't find my son. He had snuggled completely under tons of blankets and was fast asleep and wasn't answering me when I called his name and I thought someone kidnapped him while we took a bathroom break. OK then we went inside and I am scared of camping out!

You know, I've mentioned before that my oldest, a son, who is 16, is so much like this with his younger siblings. He is so sweet to them, so protective, so fun. It seems to me that in this "day and age"... (ugh!) that there aren't many good boys like ours left! Aren't we blessed!!??

Lisa.. I so enjoy this picture and you sharing your memory with us. I have my own Kade(s) and Sage. My boys, Alex (16.5) and Spencer (15) and Sabrina (5). I love the moments like those. One of my very favorite pics of my kids is of the 3 of them walking in the Olympic National Forest when Sabrina was 2yrs. View is from the back and one big brother on each side of her holding her hands. I printed the pic with the text at the bottom reading that infamous poem; "do not walk ahead of me, I may not follow" etc. Enjoy these moments!

Lisa..this story made my heart swell. I, too, have 2 older sons (both over 6 feet also!!), Connor 17, Weston 16, and then we have a 6-year-old son, Colton. Many, many times we have found him snuggled in his "big brother's bed" for safe keeping. What a gift!! Then they wake up and start fighting!! But what a joy to know that in their hour of need...they have one another. Priceless!

Lisa,
that is so sweet. My 14 year old is pretty protective of his 8 year old sister...unfortunately I can't say that he feels the same way about her twin brother!? it is very sad for me, but I guess boys will be boys - which means they'll knock heads.

I have and 11 year old boy, and a one year old girl. Their relationship is already very secure and loving. I look forward to moments like the one that you describe between your two. Much is made of sibling rivalry, but it's the love between them that makes so much of life worthwhile.
