"Happy Mother's Day" Utah Contest!
Hey Everyone!
All these contests have been so much fun! The last answer to the trivia question is "WordPerfect Magazine Editor in Chief." (This was my former job.) The winner is Becky@Shapirousa.net. Please contact Vgrothe@ckmedia.com to claim your prize!
By the way, what a wild weekend on QVC. For those of you who watched, you know my family surprised me by showing up LIVE on my 6:00 p.m. QVC show. It was a wonderful, very emotional experience. I'm anxious to share more details and also some of the cool scrapbook pages and presents that scrapbooking friends gave to me. I'm photographing everything, then will share them with you.
Okay, so if you live in the Utah area, I have a really fun contest for you. Tomorrow (Thursday May 8th) my family is being featured on Studio 5 (KSL Channel 5) at 11:00 a.m, 4:00 p.m. (news) and 5:00 p.m. (news). It's a special called "Utah's Favorite Moms" that Channel 5 is running all week. My girls are going to the studio with me and making two of our favorite recipes. My darling friend, Carrie Heaphy, whipped up these aprons us all to wear. The girls were modeling them this morning before they went to school. Aren't they cute!! Thanks, Carrie.

Okay--so here's the contest. I want to take one of you to lunch at my favorite restaurant ("Food For Thought" in Draper, Utah) and give you my two newest books. I love meeting new people and this will be so much fun! Simply watch one of tomorrow's shows and then drop me a note about something the girls or I did or said on the show (so I know you watched!). I'll choose a winner on Friday night and we'll set up the lunch. Sorry this contest is a little limited to my area!
I'll post all my neat surprises soon!
Sincerely,
Lisa

I wish that studio 5 had a studio audience! I would love to come see you in person. I will be watching for sure and wish you and the girls the best of luck! You are one of Utah’s best Mom’s and such an example of true compassion.
P.S. The QVC show was great and the projects all rocked!

Happy Mother's Day Lisa - and everyone!!
Very adorable aprons! Will these segments be online to view?? I just love watching you on TV!! I also cried with you - on QVC. What a touching moment!
Good Luck to all of you in UTAH!! (we are very jealous!)
I don't live in Utah I wish everyone good luck. I did just want to wish you a Happy Mothers Day Lisa. Enjoy your day.
Oh Lisa! You made me teary eyed last Friday. Your family is so sweet. Well that's because you're a sweet mom too. I love seeing you in TV. The girls' aprons are cute. Nice to hear from you again.
Grace C.
Okay-I want to come!! Will you take a winner from Montana!!
The girls look great in their aprons-
Have fun on TV-wish I could watch it!
Love Carrie
Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near Utah but I did get to be in the audience at the QVC event. What a treat to not only see you but your family as well. After many years of seeing your scrapbook layouts I was able to spot your family right away as they entered the QVC lobby. Little did I know it was going to be such a big surprise for you. Great job getting through that emotional event so gracefully- I could have used a couple extra tissues myself. You have a beatiful family! Happy anniversary & thanks (to you & your family) for the memories!!
Therese
Hey Lisa,
I enjoyed watching you on QVC. I was home sick from work so I got to see both times you were on and it was awesome that your family surprised you :)

Oh so wish I lived there to enter and get to go to Lunch with you..
I heard from Makiko she was so happy and surprised with the box of goodies you sent to her. How sweet of you.
Have fun on TV.
I did see you on QVC and how sweet and special that was to have your family there..

I live in Washington and I thought you may think this is funny. Anyway, I called my grandmother a couple days before you were on QVC and made arrangment s to go to her house with my girls and watch, I don't have TV. But at about 10pm the night before I realized it was airing at 9am ET, so it was going to be on at 6am. So I woke up at 5am and got my girls ready and called my grandma, woke her up, and said I was on my way. My family thinks I am a nerd! I had a great time seeing everyhthing you took, I bought A TON, thank you!
Ariel
Sounds like fun!
I thought it was really great that your Son brought his prom date.
Congrats on the 10 years!
I enjoyed the QVC shows for Nat'l Scrapbook Day.
Oh man, I wish I lived in Utah :o( This sounds like so much fun. Good luck to all.
Hi Lisa:
I was watching QVC when your family arrived, it was truely wonderful. I was trying really hard to hold back the tears but I couldn't..you have a wonderful family and you are truely blessed.
I live in California, so I am bummed that I am not able to meet you, but someday I hope too.
Good luck to everyone. Happy Mother's Day, Lisa.
Marta :)
Lisa,
Thank you so much for picking me, I am so excited.
Thank you
Becky S.
I'm watching you on Studio 5 right now. What a fun family you have! Sage was so cute singing the Hippity Hop to Bed song!! Can't wait to see what you and the girls do in the kitchen!
ahh... Lisa, I am watching you right now. I love all your tips for family closeness and fun. We love to play games together and eat together too! And we are pretty loud too! :) But, I love that kind of loud... family having fun together.
I love your advice... JUST SAY YES! I believe in that philosophy so much. I try to do that but you have inspired me to do so more often. My son always comes up with the craziest things to do and sometimes I think... oh my! but when I have said yes... it seems that it has always been the most fun!
Thanks for sharing! It's all about the FAMILY!

P.S. Love the smoothie tradition!
You are such a great and positive Mom. I think you are a great example of a FUN mom. As you spoke about saying "yes" to your children, it really hit a chord with me. Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of life it's hard to remember to enjoy the journey. Family is obviously extremely important to you and I loved hearing about the fun things you do with them. Thanks for your example!

ps...your aprons looked awesome!

Lisa,
I just saw you and your cute girls on the show making smoothies... Brecken was so cute when Darin asked her to sing, and I loved the little dance that Sage was doing. My kids love smoothies too, so I can't wait to try these Bearnson family recipes!
Robin
Logan, Utah
Brecken made the Bearnson Blueberry Banana Buster smoothie. Yum! (Although, I wish she would have been brave enough to sing while she was smoothie-making.) *wink* Saige made the Orange-You Cute Smoothie, and I think was LOVING the spotlight of the camera, no? Crack me up! Not shy at all; future star. Your appearance made me look forward to sharing similar moments (not on TV, of course) with my only daughter Regan. FUN! We're heading to the grocery store now to buy the ingredients and try our hand at some yummy smoothies. Thanks for sharing, and great job!
I just finished watching you and your cute girls...and Sage's cute dance on TV. Our family loves to play games and we LOVE smoothies too! Also, I recognized that music on the video montage from Kade's video when he was running for Student Body President! You have a cute family!
Thanks for the chance to come meet you in person!
Emily H.
Family is my number one concern as well. The First thing I think about in the morning and the last thing before going to bed.
They are why I am here.
We love to play games as well.
Domino's, X-Box, Uno, Scrabble, it is addicting.
Breaken and Sage are so cute!
They did a wonderful job making Bearnson’s Blueberry Banana Buster's.
Breaken lists on the menu board what you are having. That is sweet! Would have loved to hear her sing something...I bet she is wonderful.
I can see that Sage loves to Dance, (window washing dance).
What a cutie Pie!!!
Needed to be a bit taller to place things into the Blender.
I need a blender like that to make some Bearnson's Smoothy Busters!
I love Smoothies for breakfast, YUMM.
Great job Gals!!!
Very cute!
I hope I get to go with you to lunch.
Lunch with you would just make my Day!!! Month!! Year!!!
Love ya!

You and the girls made yummy smoothies with my favorite blender too, the BlendTech blender. I did not know it was a Utah based company.
It was so fun watching you on Studio 5! I love how you guys as a family do that hand shake thing and say "sure do love ya!" That is just so cute! I also thought it was so cute that all of you decribed your family- loud, determined, dedicated, and such!
You really are a great, amazing mother!
I hope to win to be able to get the chance to meet you! I have heard about that restaurant, but I have yet to try it!
Nice segment with the smoothies! Yum. Sage is hilarious. Poor Brecken was so embarrassed when he asked her to sing.
Great job, and Happy Mother's Day!
I have to admit, I am a Good Things Utah viewer and I have not ever really gotten into Studio 5, but I watched it today just watch your cute family.
Your girls are adorable and I loved the package they edited of your family. I am LDS so we obviously have very similar values, and while your kids are older than mine, I can only hope that my family is just as close are yours in when they are older.
I loved the quote you have in your house "Mistakes are Welcome Here". That is such a great motto for your home and kids so they know that you don't have to be perfect as long as you try. I WILL be getting a plaque for my home too.
Oh my word...Sage is so cute with that missing front tooth.
I thought Brecken looked a little scared that you might actually have her sing on tv.
I cannot wait to try to make the Bearnson Blueberry Banana Buster. That looked so yummy.
Lovin' those matching aprons.
That card is so cute. I participate in a neighborhood card club and I may borrow that for my next one.
Thanks for sharing the ideas. Fun to see you on STUDIO 5

Hi Lisa,
Okay so how cute was Sage doing her little jig and singing?! Loved it! I think that it is absolutely brilliant that you make your kids smoothies every morning...and then make them 'drink it all up'! Oh and I love that you use Sister Hinckley's philosophy of saying yes. Watching this reminded me of my mom because our home was always loud growing up and she had a song for everything, including when she cooked. So fun! Good job to you and the girls.

Hi Lisa!
It was so much fun to see you and your girls in action today! I even had my husband watch a little bit of the show with me, so we could get ideas about things to do with our own future family. I'm not a mom yet (hopefully in 2009!) but I love watching and learning from excellent mothers, like yourself. Three of the things that you said that I really enjoyed are:
1. You don't have to spend a lot of money to have fun. This is especially true for us, because we're still in our "starving" college years!
2. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you make smoothies everyday for your kids. I'm really big into healthy eating and I love that you take the time each day to make sure your kids are getting good stuff.
3. I love that you said how important it was to spend time with your family, it's very clear how much you all love each other!
Thanks for the opportunity to win a chance to meet you!
Whitney
Personally, I thought the segments on Studio 5 were all great of highlighting you as a "Utah Favorite Mom". I did like how proud Sage was to show off her missing tooth smile just prior to the smoothie segment. Cute girls! Congrats on the highlight. (I thought the family montage was really sweet).
Debbie
Hi Lisa,
I live in Utah! Thanks for the fun contest. I watched Studio 5 today. Your girls were cute! Brecken would not sing, but Sage did dance. A Blendtec blender was used. I going to try and make a Bearnson Blueberry Banana Buster and "Drink it all up"
You had wonderful ideas on spending time with your family.
Angel
hey Lisa
I must say that you are truly inspirational. I hope that I can be as good of mom as you and my own mom are. I really like that you are so open about your beliefs and that family more than anything else is most important and it is what drives you to do what you do! I consider you someone that I look up to. I saw studio 5 today and I was amazed at how awesome your family is! I can't wait to try your smoothies and Sage was so cute dancing around in the kitchen and doing the dishes. Hope to meet you soon.

You have to put the words on here to “Hippity hop to bed”! That has to be one of the cutest things ever! Loved the show! Your dedication to family is inspiring!

Cute little Sage did the dance with her hands. The smoothie's looked yummy I think i'm going to try to make the OrangeyCute Smoothey myself and you did a great window card with flower's in it. The apron's are way too cute your friend in Montana need's to market those. Too bad Brecken didn't sing though. I love love love all the home decor you have that includes your family. You are an amazing person. Happy Mother's Day.
Autumn B.
Okay so if you get this twice sorry!!! I just tried to comment and I don't see that it posted. I'm a Huge Fan!!!! Anyways, today you and your girls did great. Here's what I saw: Sage and her cute hand dance. I think i'm going to try the OrangeyCutie smoothie. You made a really cute window card with a tulip pic. from the Tulip Festival. I absolutely loved your home decor items that included your cute family..... Have A Happy Mother's Day.( once again sorry if you get this 2 times.)
Autumn B.
Great show today. I loved how you talked about how important your famly is to you and how you make it a priority to spend time with them. I also loved the hinged canvas showing your son's Eagle Scout experience. Could you post a picture of it on your blog? I would love to see it!
You are so fun to watch on TV. (I saw the QVC show with your family, very touching) Your girls are so adorable! I would love to hear Brecken sing. Sage is quite the entertainer.
The smoothies you made look delicious, I got the recipes and will definitely try them.
You have an amazing family. You are an amazing mom. Happy Mother's Day!
You guys were so cute this morning on Studio 5! I'm already planning on making those smoothies ASAP! Does Carrie sell those aprons or have a pattern to share? I'd love to have one of my own.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! You're the best!

P.S. Would love to come to lunch with you!!!
Lisa, you and your daughters did a great job on Studio 5 today! I thought your sons' descriptions of you as "tenacious" and "determined" were sweet. Also I'm adopting your family quote "mistakes are welcome here!"
I love the card idea you demonstrated with the big shot. It is a great idea for a mothers day card.
Lindsay Jones
I saw you on good things utah this am and your daughter was sooo cute! I loved it when she said "when my mom makes us smoothies she always says" "Drink it all up". The way she said it in her cute little voice just brought a smile to my face!
I also LOVED the aprons - that fabric line is so cute! Must go get me some!!
Mary
Yay . . . I'm in Utah! I had to DVR Studio 5 because I went on a field trip with my son, but I just watched it. It was fun to see you with your girls. Watching you and your amazing family makes me feel a little inadequate . . . you seem to do so much! We love smoothies in our home, too, so I really enjoyed that segment (but I really wanted to hear Brecken sing :)). I also totally agree with your philosophy on saying "yes" to your kids when you can. It would be so fun to lunch with you!

I saw you on Good Things Utah. Love the special Mom segments they've done this week. The thing that came to mind first, was Sage's giggle.
Lynette
Dear Manager of Choas,
Orangey just so cute with those adorable aprons that your friend from Montana made. There would be nothing smoother than going to lunch with you. I know you can't say no because if you do I would feel so blue, buster. I may have to Scrabble up some words to say, so if I stumble I'm sure it will be ok since mistakes are welcome here. I wish I could Hippity hop off to bed, but it's much too early so I'll stay up instead. So here is some Food For Thought, I won't count all of my chickens before they are hatched. I'll live in the moment until I get the call that I can have lunch with you that would be a ball. I may not be as loud as 10 squeally girls, but I can surely try. You see I'm a mom to four boys and I really need a break. I guess I'll have to sit around and doodle until I hear from you that it is time to eat some cake.
I love your philosophy on life and parenting. I am trying to say yes more often. In fact, I am just trying to find more joy in my children. I'm not very good at it frankly. They are young and I often get so overwhelmed in the day to day stuff that I don't just play with them. When I see the results of your parenting style with your beautiful, kind, thoughtful kids, I think I better try harder! Man oh man, how I would love to meet with you and get some inspiration!
I loved the aprons and the smoothies. Yum. I thought it was so cute at the end when they showed Sage doing the dishes and she looked up and beamed with her great toothless smile. So cute!
Lindsay, Cedar Hills
Wow Lisa! I would FLY to Utah for the chance for lunch with you. Have fun on the show!

Those smoothies look great!!! Love the lost tooth, too...too cute!!! My almost 6 year old has not lost one yet, and she is getting so sad!

I absolutley loved the projects that you brought to studio 5!!! I will have to "copy" the canvas picture for the scouting. i have a 8yo son that really enjoys his scouts..what a good way for him to be displayed...maybe even in his room.
The "peek-a-boo" card was cute too.
Debbie
Lehi
I absolutely love the "Just Say Yes" mentality. I am going to try that more with my children. Maybe we can become closer if I say yes more often to them.
-Jenn
Man I wish I lived in Utah! Would love to spend lunch with you! Hey, if you are ever in Ohio though I live not to awful far from the Longaberger Basket plant so if you are ever this way...look me up...and I'll take YOU to lunch ;-)
And I did see your QVC show...I was in tears for you! That was the sweetest thing ever! What a truly blessed moment! Have an awesome mother's day this weekend!
Tammy M. in Ohio
Hi Lisa!
I went straight to the web and printed off your smoothie recipes after seeing you on Studio 5... thanks for sharing them!
The thing I love the most about you is that I can completely tell that your family is your #1 priority. Despite your "fame", it's easy to see that you really are just trying to be the best mom you can and raise a great family.
Thanks for sharing your life with the rest of us!

Hi Lisa! I would so love to do lunch with you and hope that I get picked. I did indeed watch the show. You and your girls were so cute and I was so motivated and inspired. I loved seeing the lovely projects you have in your home! I have actually seen you at Food for Thought once before recently and at the Tulip Festival! I didn't want to interrupt your lunch and I never caught up to you at the gardens. I was also with my daughter's achievement day group. Both times I saw you I was like do you know who that is?? and was totally starstruck and no one I was with knew you. Can you believe it? I was shocked and dismayed. I decided that you should always wear a button or shirt that says "I'm kind of a big deal." so that everyone will get the big idea and treat you with more gushing and such! Ha! (not that you'd want that I guess) I figured what are the odds that I'd ever get the chance to meet you again and then I read about this little contest. I think it's fate that our paths should cross. Anyways, thanks for being so open with your talents and life. I feel like we are already friends in some way because I have followed you for so long through the magazine/books/&blog. Would love to make it official though. Thanks so much!
Cindy, Draper
There is so much that you talked about that can be commented about. I loved how you said to just say "Yes" even if you say no you can always change your answer to yes. also the best choice is to spend time with family. Family is the most important part of your life, and best of all your memories happen in your backyard. Thanks for being an inspirational mom!!

Good job on the show. I'm excited to try your smoothie recipes for breakfast. Thanks for the chance to enter your contest. I've learned a lot from you.

As always, you were so great today! The segment that KSL put together was amazing - I always love your philosophies on family and life in general. It was fun to see your husband and kids as well. I also have been inspired over the years by Marjorie Hinckley. I remember when I first read about her "yes" philosophy. I shared it in RS that very next Sunday and have tried to live by it every since. Having my fourth and final baby (all by c-section :)) next week - thanks for being such a great example of how to raise an amazing family.
Marlene, Layton
Dear Lisa,
I love that your food pantry is open to everyone, that your kids friends get "in trouble" when they ASK if they can have a snack at your home, (when they know they can have whatever they want)! I also LOVED Sister Hinckley, she had so many great ideas and quotes that I try to live by. I just loved watching you be with your girls and learning more about you and your family. Thanks for sharing! Robyn
Lisa,
I would LOVE to go to lunch with you! Scrapbooking got me reading blogs but I have found over time I love seeing inside other peoples' lives. I learn so much from women like you! I also find myself thinking what fun friends these people would make! I also share a passion for cooking (especially treats) and my kids enjoy it as well! I watched the 4 & 5 o'clock shows but had a hard time finding you there. I think my DVR malfunctioned. I always love a new restaurant and great company!

Where did she get that cute fabric? Such adorable aprons and very generous of her to make them for you. Have fun!
Hi Lisa,
Happy Mother's Day! I wish I could have seen you and your family on tv. Is there a website to watch the segment online?
Trina
Ymmmm...smoothies!! I *heart* smoothies and need to get a blender like that! And Utah based? Even better!
I'm for sure going to try "Food for Thought"...hope it's with you!
Celeste
Hi Lisa!
I tried to tune in around 4:00-5:00, but they only showed a small snippet and I teach school for most of the day. I did like what you said about how you scrapbook not only to remind your family about the good times, but also about the tough times. I really want to try to focus more on bringing lessons learned into scrapbooking. Thanks for the inspiration!
Megan from Syracuse, UT
Lisa-
I thought it was great that they asked you and your family members to describe your family. Tenacious, determined, loud, dedicated, and chaotic is how I would describe my family also. Especially the loud and chaotic part. Hope to meet you. I am inspired by you daily.
-Michelle in Clinton
p.s. Who is the cute brown haired girl that came to QVC with your family and is in one of your family photos they showed on Studio 5?
How fun to have two darling daughters to do such a cute segment. Love the aprons too. You can just tell that love "oozes out" for each family member. You just have fantastic relationships with all of your family and it shows in everything you do and in their faces, they are happy kids, which says a lot about the parents. Love the just say yes idea. As a single Mom I find myself having to say no more than I'd like to unfortunately. I printed off the smoothie recipes for us to try this weekend. You did a great job!
Kim-Logan, UT
Lisa--I was so excited for this 'local' chance and then I forgot to watch the 11 am show and the missed the 4 pm show, so I DVR's the 5 pm show and got all ready to watch and enjoy and to my suprise the segment was NOT there.
I re-watched 3 or 4 times to make sure I didn't skip over it, but it was not there :(
I searched the Studio 5 site to see if they had it up and the only thing they had was the Smoothie recipes (which sound yummy by the way). So I am bummed today.
Anyway, I will say that I am not suprised by the fact that you include Blueberries in your favorite recipe and I remember that my Mom ALWAYS got our frozen blueberries from your Mom !!! :)
(How is that for a little mystery?)
Anyway--Hope your Mother's Day is a great one!!
Lisa-
I don't normally enter contests, but I was completely impressed with how you value your family and make them a priority in your busy life. I appreciated the quote you have in your home, "Mistakes are welcome here" and how that teaches your children to keep trying even if it isn't easy. I could see that your children have a strong sense of who they are when they used words like "tenacious" and "determined" to describe your family. I would consider it a privilege to be able to meet you and have a discussion about how you manage to balance all the demands on yourself and your time!

Hey Lisa
You have a such a cute family. I loved your "food for thought" idea and the smoothies look so Yummy. We are going to give them a try. You are a very inspiring mother.

Utah
P.S. Loved the aprons.
Well, darn it! I missed the 11:00 show so I was excited to watch the news at 4 and 5 so I could see you! The 4 o'clock news only showed a really short piece and I didn't see anything on the 5 o'clock news. I did, however, find your smoothie recipes on the Studio 5 website -- can't wait to try them!! :o)
I was thrilled they profiled you as a Utah Mom. I loved that you guys kiss your fingers and say Sure do love you. I cried when you talked about your mom teaching you what a wonderful thing being a mother is. My mom passed away in 2003 and I miss her dearly. I'm glad you have such a wonderful example in your life.
You also looked different to me. I couldn't put my finger on it exactly, but I think it looks like you've lost weight. You looked really good!
Kristen
I know I'm probably too late to be a winner but either way I wanted to comment on your Studio 5 appearance. I LOVED it. Your family is so awesome! Your boys are the kind of boys that I hope my girls bring home some day...so nice and genuine (and cute)! Your girls are ADORABLE (like their mom!)I saw you at the Oakley rodeo (I think it was last year) and wanted to meet you but didn't want to bother you. I hope to meet you some day! Thank your family for being such great examples! Linda
Am I too late??? I haven't had one chance to post a comment. We love to play games too...right now we're really into GO FISH and MEMORY. Can you tell that my son is three? :-) The smoothies looked yummy.
