My Favorite Smoothie Recipes!

Yesterday I mentioned that I make smoothies every morning for my children before sending them off to school. The reason? 1. They are usually in a hurry and this is something they can gulp down fast. 2. I load it full of wonderful, nutritious ingredients--it might just be the best meal they get for the day :) ! 3. It makes me feel like a good mom because I'm doing something great for my kids! 4. It's fast!! Literally two minutes and you're done. 5. It's a wonderful tradition. During the Christmas break I got lazy and the kids ate cereal. The children kept asking me "When are you going make smoothies again?"
Okay--so this little machine has made making smoothies a joy! My sweet sis, Angela, gave this to me last year for Christmas and my birthday and it literally has changed my life. Best investment ever (thanks, Ang). Go here to find out about this powerful blender (the same one they use at professional smoothie places).

I really just throw anything in the blender--frozen fruit, fresh bananas, Carnation Instant Breakfast Drink, fresh yogurt (or frozen), carrots, milk, pineapple juice, fresh apples, peanut butter, etc.
Here are a few of our favorite recipes.
Bearnson Blueberry Banana Buster
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups frozen whole strawberries
1 banana
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1 1/2 cups lowfat milk
1 cup lowfat yogurt, strawberry or vanilla flavor
7 ice cubes
A little honey (optional)
Blend together; makes four servings.
"Orange You Cute" Smoothie
Ingredients:
5 T. frozen orange juice concentrate
1 cup milk
2 bananas
1 cup lowfat yogurt, vanilla flavor
5 ice cubes
Blend together; makes three servings.
Chocolate Frosty
1 package chocolate Carnation Instant Breakfast Drink
1-2 cups milk
1 banana
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup vanilla or strawberry yogurt.
Blend and enjoy. My family loves this combination!
My friend, Les, from Maryville, MO left this recipe on my blog. Since my family LOVES pina coladas, I can't wait to try it. And--it's healthy!
Healthy Pina Coladas
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup or so of frozen pineapple
1 tsp or so of coconut extract
water or milk
5 or 6 ice cubes
4 ounces plain yogurt (Greek is my favorite!)
Blend together.
Have fun blending and share any of you favorite recipes with me!
Lisa

I had a question re: your trip to Costco. Shrimp soup? Sounds de-lish, but where do you find it? I have never seen it at my local Costco and I went onthe .com site and couldn't find it there either. Is it a canned item? Is is specific to Utah? any further info. would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
DeAnn
Here's my favorite version I call a Chunky Monkey. YUMMY!
1 small banana (cut up & frozen)
1 scoop vanilla whey protein
1 Tbsp peanut butter
3/4 cup milk
3 ice cubes
I've been using a weight loss system that incorporates 2 meal replacement shakes a day. The shake mix is SO yummy (it smells like cake batter!) and makes FANTASTIC smoothies! It's really good for you, too, with a great boost of protein and vitamins. You can check it out on my website: http://alyson.myvi.net/site/health-weightmanagement . I've lost 30 pounds on it, but it's not just for weight loss - it's a perfect healthy snack or breakfast. I can send you a sample if you are interested, email me at tonaly at gmail dot com. :)
Those look so good! Thanks for sharing.
I was able to order the 365 Project. Yeah!!!It shipped yesturday.

I love smoothies too. I've been trying to get my sister to make them for herself so she has something in the mornings for breakfast. thanks for sharing the recipes. We just had smoothies the other night for snack.
Thanks for the recipes, Lisa! I just have to share the name of my favorite smoothie-making machine. It's the Magic Bullet. It used to be available only on an infomercial but now you can find them at most stores, like Bed Bath and Beyond (plus you can go in with your mailer coupon!) I think it's about $100 before the coupon but the beauty of it is that you get the machine plus lots of attachments like 4 mugs that are used for blending and serving individual portions. I love being able to skip the "cleaning the blender" step. Check it out!
Hi Lisa, Thanks for the recipes.
I wanted to also thank for your introduction of Brittny Bush in an earlier post. I am a high school teacher in California. A few years ago I decided to use the money that I typically give to charities during the holidays to my students as a holiday assignment. Each person in my Senior Economics class(about 45), recieves a 5 dollar bill from me. I ask them to think about what "doing good" for their community and others means and to use this $5.00 for that. They then write up a paper telling about their experiences. Before the project I put up a "community board" where they can see good causes that they can work for. This year I added your post about Brittany. A couple of students picked her for this project and sent her some cute gifts along with letters. They were very touched by her story and very inspired to try to do something to make her smile. They also told me that they are now so inspired to keep this tradition going each year. So, I just thought I would let you know that your blog has done a lot to inspire others. Thanks! Lorrie
Thanks for the smoothie recipes. Right now, we go through the Yoplait Smoothie Mix at Costco like crazy. I don't know if they have it there. It's a mix of frozen raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and yogurt chunks. All you do is throw that in the blender and add milk.Easy peasy. There are 5 bags in one large bag, and each bag makes 2 smoothies. However, at the rate we're going...basically, I think it might be cheaper to make my own. I bought the little ice cube trays and put some yoplait yogurt in them and froze them. I hope it'll work.
Lisa-
My mother in law Mona works at the Wells Fargo in Highland. You gave her a recipe book kit, and because she knows how much I love scrapbooking she sent it to me for my birhtday. I got it today, and when I saw the little post it note with your blog on it-to see cover ideas, well, I almost started crying and then laughing. Crying because it was so awesome to get something so sweet and had your handwriting on it-and laughing because I know Mona had no idea what this would mean to me and how important you are to the world of scrapbooking that is such an important part of my life! When I called her to tell her thank you, I told her who you were, and she couldn't believe it, she said, "But she is so humble and so dear!" I laughed and told her "I know! That's why so many of us look up to her!" I just wanted you to know that you made my day, it was a hard one too-I was helping in the kitchen for a funeral in our ward today, and was away from my kids and husband all day on the one day this week that we could have been all together the whole day. It was such a fun surprise to get to come home to. SO thanks again, for being so nice to my sweet mother in law-I totally reaped the benefits on that one!
Awesome....I was just thinking about googling for some smoothie recipes! Thanks for sharing!
LOVE my Blendtec!!!
Thank you for the recipes. My girls are loving the breakfast smoothies and I feel great about what they're getting in that smoothie!!!!
Oh joy! Oh rapture! New smoothie recipes is just what I needed! That "Orange You Cute" one looks So yummy. I'm off to give it a try! Thanks again!
Honugurl16--
Funny you should tell me your family is addicted to Yoplait Smoothie Mix (frozen) at Costco. I took a chance and bought a bag last week and it was THE BEST! My entire family LOVED the smoothies. So--two days later I went back and bought three more bags. They are more expensive than making them from scratch but they are really great. All you do is add milk. So--from Honugurl16 and me--try the Yoplait frozen smoothie mix at Costco.
Tiffany Hewlett--What a sweet story about your mother-in-law sending you the recipe book. Thanks for leaving me a message--it made my day!
Ms. Bearnson,
I was wondering if you have any access to Year in Review blue book in a warehouse anywhere/ I have never been able to get the fourth copies of Lisa's Favirite Albums that you sold on QVC. QVC sent out a form letter informing me that they were unable to deliver the fourth book. Ugh...incomplete set.. Thank you!
Amelia,
Please contact Vivian at vgrothe@ckmedia.com and she can see if there is an extra Year in Review scrapbook.
Sincerely,
LB
Dear Lisa,
I just wanted to let you know that my children loved the Chocolate Frosty Smoothie. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. We have smoothies as treats, but I love the breakfast idea. Even the picture from your blog inspired me. My kids always drink from plastic cups, but when I saw the pretty glass, I thought that would be fun. I served their smoothies in Margarita glasses and they thought that was the most special treat. It is amazing how such simple touches can really make a child smile. Thank you for the inspiration.

I didn't know that the same smoothie I made had a name, the Bearnson Blueberry Banana buster. That is by far our favorite too. You know what I love? that you probably have a crazy busy life, but you take the time to share everyday things with us. You are amazing!
