Ebony and Ivory--Live Together in Perfect Harmony!
I am not an animal lover. I mean I cry when I see one hurt or a stray that nobody cares about. My mom and sisters laugh really hard when they think about me having a dog and a cat living in my home! The chewed up shutters, the hair that seems to be everywhere, the occasional accident. The cat hates the dog and really bullies Maggie.
Well--we've had a stray little black cat with the greenest eyes hanging around our home for the past few months. Maggie and this Kitty (my kids call it Twilight) are the best of friends. Maggie bullies Twilight to death and she/he takes it! Of course, I feel sorry for the cat so I feed it. Imagine my complete and utter surprise to come home a few weeks ago from church to discover the dog had somehow broken into our home (she was out back while at church) and she and the stray little cat were laying side by side taking a nap in the sheets of my unmade bed!!! I about died. (I hadn't gotten my bed made that Sunday before church!) I'm a germ freak and I don't want animals in or on my bed--especially a stray cat!
I've been trying to get a good picture of the two of them but unfortunately Twilight is wild and can't be caught. We've tried so we can take her to the vet--no luck.
I got this one the other day:

This is a cute example of how we should all be with each other!
It's camp week for my kids this week.
Kade went with this bunch of 18-year-old kids (plus about 100 more) on a three week tour across America. He's only been gone two days and miss him terribly.

Brecken is at our a church young womens camp all week. She was so excited to finally be able to go (you have to be 12).

Sage goes to a sports camp every afternoon and Collin goes to football from 6-10 in the morning, then basketball camp in the afternoon.
Whew! I'm tired just thinking about all this!
Hope summer is going well for you!

Suggestion for catching the kitty: If you have a kennel or cat carrier, put some anchovies (in water not oil) in a container at the back of the kennel and leave the door open. If you have been feeding it at the same time each day it will come around then. Feed the cat in the kennel each evening or at the same time, then on the day before you take them to the vet, you can close the door. You want to be sure to put only a little food not a lot, so the vet can evaluate the animal and give it shots, spay/neuter, etc. I have had several cats living in my yard before I got a dog. I had one that had many kittens. I socialized them by hand and fed them by hand. Then captured them in a kennel and took them to get spayed and then surrendered to a shelter who got them adopted. The mama kitty got spayed too (she was in her own kennel because she was feral and would not come to be fed by hand. I nurtured her while she healed and she now lives in our backyard and we feed her. You can also contact a feral cat rescue to give you more details on this. You will be doing a good thing to help this kitty from having unwanted kittens and any health problems.
Lisa,
Where did you get the large jars you have your ribbon stored in? I enjoy your blog. I have my second child graduating this year! Only one to go. While I am a little anxious about things changing, I am very excited for her too. I have found that I feel better if I think about the fact that it is just time for them to go. They are ready!
So funny about the animals in your bed! I'll have to tell Jerry. He will love that. So it's kind quiet at your house? Ryan and Syd moved to Boise and Stacy moved to Rexbug. My mom is still in the hospital. We are making a blogland get well card if you wanna leave her a message get on my blog www.enjoy-lifes2short.blogspot.com
We are making a huge one out of posterboard. Sure do love you guys. Hope you have a great summer!
What a great story! It's amazing how cats and dogs, especially ones that don't know each other, can get along. You are right! that IS how people should be too!
We have a cat, and we all adore him, but boy can I relate to the hair being everywhere! His name is Murphy and he is all white. When I go to work, I have to wear black pants. I have found Murphy many times taking a nap on my black pants! And no matter how hard you try, you can never get all the hairs off! I try to laugh about it. When people ask me if I have a cat, because of the hairs they see on my clothes, I proudly say, "Yes I do and I just love him!"
It sounds like you are doing your best to get used to everyone being gone this week. Does Kade come home for awhile before his mission? I hope you get to spend some time with him before he goes. My son graduates this Wednesday. At least I have all summer with him home before he leaves for college. I am dreading that day!
Take care, Lisa. Thanks again for sharing. The pictures are great!
Barb :)

Hi Lisa! Are you doing your "Adventures" again this August before CKU? Would love to attend. I loved it last year!

Hi Lisa,
I don't want to freak you out or anything, but I want to share something about your stray cat situation.
Last year, my boys found a stray cat lurking around our house. I would let them pet it, and it seemed to be a cute fluffy little cat. About a week or two after the cat started hanging around, I noticed a funny growth under my 4 YO's eye. The doctor didn't seem to be concerned, so we just kept an eye on it. About a week after this, he started running a high fever, and he didn't want to eat or drink. Also his lymph nodes on his neck became huge. I took him back to the doctor who admitted him to the hospital. After 4 days, his fever still wouldn't break. They took ultrasounds of his lymph nodes, and couldn't figure out why he was so sick. After a week in the hospital, and numerous antibiotics were tried, they referred us to a surgeon to drain the lymph nodes. The first thing out of the surgeon's mouth was the question whether he had been around any stray cats. We said yes, and why? He said before he did surgery, he wanted to do one more test for cat scratch fever. Remember the song? I didn't know it was a real disease. The test was positive. Our little boy was so sick, because we he had been scratched by the stray cat. The surgeon thought that the tiny scratch was probably right under his eye where the growth was. Sure enough, once the right antibiotic was given to him, the growth fell off, and under it, was the tinies little knick. All that from a tiny knick. So we no longer let the kids go near stray cats. We tell them that they could make them sick. I just wanted to let you know, so you don't have to go through what we did. It was pretty scary.
Lisa, Your scrap room is PHENOMENAL! I can barely see the floor in my space and there is a small path from the door to the computer, much to the dismay of my DH! I am inspired by this photo to get my act back on track and tidy-up! I feel like I am the "before shot" of an upcoming makeover. Thanks,Tracey
I just have to add that I had cat scratch fever as a child. It was lame but no serious and certainly not life threatening. You should know you can get it from any cat scratch (I got it from our family pet who was well maintained). It's not something to worry about because of stray issues, healthy cats can give it too. So I would not worry about that at all.
If you look online in many sources you will learn cat scratch disease is also very mild. The above mentioned case is really rare and certainly not a normal case. If it were me, like her, if my kids had that I would avoid all cats as that reaction was scary. I am just saying realistically, if you google it, its not serious at all. It certainly wasn't for me as a child.
