Halloween is in the Air!
Thanks so much for your well wishes for Kade and our family.
Just to answer a few of your questions:
Kade leaves January 20th--one day before Sage's birthday and six days before mine! We'll have to celebrate early.
Kade's friend, Blake, will be going to Ecuador. His other best friend, Collin, also got his the same day. He will be serving in Brazil.
The cute missionary count-down blocks (see entry three below) are from Pebbles in my Pocket and can be purchased here.
Several have asked if we can visit Kade while on his mission. The answer is no. But the good news is he and we will write letters every week and he can call home on Mother's Day and Christmas!
Many have also asked where I got the cute dry erase frame that I'm always writing notes on. I got this in Arizona on a trip to see Becky Higgins. A few years later it broke and I was heart sick. It's one of the few physical things that I have that I'm in love with. The manufacturer was on the back and my hubby surprised me with a new one last Christmas. Unfortunately the new frame doesn't have the manufacturer listed and I can't remember who made it. I've searched on the internet with no luck. If you know who makes it, please let us know!
Here's the scoop on the countdown before Kade leaves. Everyone is going to miss him terribly but . . .
* Collin is counting down the days so he can have his car.
* Brecken is counting down the days so she can have his cell phone.
* Sage is counting down the days so she can sleep in his bed.
* I'm counting down the days so I can start counting down the days until he gets back. But--then we'll be sending another missionary off (Collin) and it will be more counting!!
I've never been much of a Halloween person but this year I really got into it! My house is very festive if I do say so myself! This "curtain" hangs over one of the French doors in our main room.
This fun "spooky" tree is from Pier 1 Imports. It's in the entry of our home.

Hey Lisa,
I found this post quite funny. I love the way that the rest of family are waiting to get something of his. Kids are the same the world over.
I'd really like to ask why is it that you can't see Kade during his mission? I have several friends who are Mormon and we have chatted about the Mormon way of life somewhat with them but we have never talked about this. I'm just curious.
Love your halloween decor, BTW!

Sounds like life is in full swing at your house!! I finally put some Halloween and fall decorations out a few days ago. I love my Porch!! Em and I bought lots of big mums and pumpkins:)
Lots of love to you guys and Kade. I know you'll miss him but I also know he will be exactly where he needs to be!! You guys are amazing:)
Love,
Les
I absolutely love learning all this new stuff about being a missionary. You even got me watching "mission call" videos on YouTube- LOL! Thanks for sharing!
So funny you mentioned Pier 1 as your new favorite store. I was in there the other day buying curtains & was thinking the same thing. They really have some great stuff these days. I may just have to get a p/t job there for the discount ;)
Enjoy this wonderful fall season & the precious family time that you have left until Kade's mission!

several posts ago, you couldn't wait to tell us what you had spent 12 hours doing on a previous saturday. to my knowledge you haven't shared or at least I couldn't find it. care to solve the mystery for us?
There is a similiar message dry erase board that is sold in the Southern Living Catalog. Not quite like the one you had on your blog (at least I don't think). It is on page 16 of the new fall catalog along with about a 1,000 other cute things! Only reason I know this is I am having a party! I cannot begin to imagine having either of my kids gone for 2 years and not being able to see him...your faith and commitment are very courageous! I think just b/c we are mothers that it always effects us more! I would be like you...counting the days till he comes home! I will count also and maybe it will go twice as fast! LOL! Enjoy every minute until he leaves and his siblings sounds just like mine would! Kids! Deep down they will miss him as you do!
Lisa,
They have the Dry Erase Boards (I hope you mean the one on your counter), thru Southern Living at Home. I sooo want one. Hope that helps those who might be interested! BTW, Love your Halloween decor.

Decorations are so cute! God bless Kade on his mission. Being a mother it's hard to let children go but sometimes we must. Hang in there! I bet you are so proud!

I now live in Idaho, but am from North Carolina. I lived and the rest of my family still lives in the Raleigh NC mission. I absolutely LOVE NC! I love the character, history, people, southern hospitality & the yummy southern cooking. My family lives in 3 different areas within that mission (Chapel Hill - Pratt family - my sister's family, Clinton - West's - my parents & Roanoke Rapids - the ward I grew up in - my husband says this is the friendliest ward he has ever gone to - my brother lives in this ward). My sister & parents have the missionaries over quite often - my mom is an amazing "southern cook" - Kade will be well taken care of. I will give the heads up to my family that he will be coming. Best wishes to you all.

Lisa, I am having trouble seeing your blog from my normal way of having it as a permanent link on my Google Homepage. I have to go to your website to see it. Anyone else having the same trouble? My son (the computer geek of the family) says: "Permalinks aren't working from your blog posts." Whatever that means. But glad I can get to it this way at least. Good luck with all the waterworks!
Lisa is your memo board by Drake Designs perhaps? I have a similar one by that company--it's ceramic but you can use dry erase markers to write on it.
Thank you for posting the info! So appreciated.
Love your posts they always make me smile!
I love decorating for Halloween (you can see some of my ideas over at littleantdesogn.blogspot.com) I was thrilled to see that you got lots of your stuff at Pier 1 - I have 3 Pier 1 stores surrounding me but I was completely unaware that they sold Halloween stuff. I now have a new Halloween source - yippee!
The memo board is on Neiman Marcus website. It's called Ceramic Memo Board and it's $70.
Love reading your posts, Lisa. Thanks for sharing with us.
Hi Lisa,
Could you please give us an update on your dad? How did his surgery go? I have been praying for him. Congratulations to Kade.
Sending off that first missionary is a biggie! Our second missionary is entering the MTC on January 27 - just one week after yours :) (and I'm here to tell you #2 is not any easier to send off than #1 - but it sure is fantastic when they get back!!!)
