Spooky Idea: No. 1

Over the next week, stay tuned for some tips to make the week of Halloween more hauntingly fun! I'm calling them "Spooky Ideas" but you'll discover they're not all that scary!

Spooky Idea: No. 1
For a quick, yummy, festive hot drink, pour apple juice or cider into a sauce pan and dump in a handful of Red Hot candies. Heat on medium until steamy and hot, stirring occasionally. The red hots will magically melt into the hot cider making this drink the perfect blend of apple and cinnamon flavors. If you like a stronger flavor, add more Red Hots. Warning: DO NOT use Hot Tamales. I learned the hard way that they NEVER melt. This hot beverage is also great for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.

Other fun (and not so fun) news from the Bearnson household.

Collin successfully went on his first date--Sadie Hawkins (a girls choice dance). The girls were very clever. They had the boys dress up in basketball jerseys and the girls were dressed as referees. Each girl had the last name of her date on the back of her ref shirt.

Sage has been sicker than sick and came home from the Urgent Care on Thursday night looking like this:

She got hit three times: step throat, an ear infection and yes--the dreaded Swine Flu. The testing for the Swine Flu (a swab up your nose) is simply dreadful. She's in quarantine for a week. Not fun!

Until next time, hope you're happy, healthy and enjoying the cooler weather. And hope you don't catch the Swine Flu by looking at Sage's picture!

Love ya,
Lisa

My daughter caught it Monday I had it by Wednesday and my son came down with it by Friday. It is AWFUL!!! Sage's face looks the way my children's face did this past week. Wishing her a speedy recovery. I cannot believe she was hit by strep and an ear infection too! Bless her little heart.

I guess the ONLY upside to this is we all got it before the Holidays.

Lisa,

I feel so bad for Sage! My 14 year old son also had the swine flu along with strep. It lasted about 5 days (he missed 4 days of school). The cough was the worst part along with a fever of 103.6. The high fever was a bit scarey.

I was washing everything in sight and spraying Lysol everywhere. He came through fine though. After his fever went away, he had a cough for about another week. We were very lucky that no one else caught it.

Tell Sage to hang in there. It's never fun being sick. :( Hopefully it will only be a day or two more and then she'll be back to her old self again.

Take care!
Barb :)

Are y'all chugging Tamiflu too? eeeeek!!! That's scarier than anything about Halloween!

Hope the rest of y'all stay well.:)

Lisa,
I am so sorry about Sage! Every Mom I talk to seems to be dreading the news you just got from the doctor. Our schools here in VA are starting to give the H1N1 vaccine to the students. I hope the flu doesn't keep Sage down for too long.
Get well soon Sage!

Lisa, Hope Sage is feeling better. You probably are already doing this--but watch her like a hawk the next couple of days. Especially for any respiratory distress. Take care

Oh, I hope Sage gets better soon. Selfishly, before my mom and dad get there this week. :)
Lovingly because it STINKS to have a sick kid or to be sick.
Hugs!

What a cute couple, I love the idea of the Basketball and Referees Jerseys. Poor Sage, I sure hope she is feeling better quickly and that the rest of your house doesn't catch it. Hope you have a good recipe for some Chicken Noodle Soup.

My sister and her family live across the way from you over in Saratoga Springs. Both her boys have H1N1. When the first one started to not feel well, she didn't take any precautions and now the rest of the family has it. As a business continuity planner for my company, I tried to tell her how to prepare and prevent, etc., but she didn't listen. In fact, Utah has one of the highest rates of H1N1 right now...too many moms doubting the likelihood of their child getting it or not keeping their child home once they start feeling ill. Wash your hands frequently and stay at least 10 feet away from her as much as you can. Here's hoping she's up and around quickly.

PS...Nothing bad implied against you as a mom...it was a comment just in general.

Hi Lisa,

Sending prayers for Sage to get better soon.

Lisa, I want to thank you so much for your blog...I am inspired by it all the time, and as I am not blessed with many friends in my life, I sort of look forward to reading your blog as a friend...so thanks!

Here's a tip for your readers who want an easel like yours but can't find one. Michaels has metal easels for around $10 in their picture frame aisle, and Target sells smaller sized white dry erase boards for about $4. Put the board on the frame and voila!!!

I just got this together on Saturday and my kids already love it and reminded me last night to remember to write them a message!

Thanks so much!
Anne
