We just returned from Bear Lake (it sits on the border of Utah and Idaho). It’s one of the most beautiful lakes I’ve ever seen. It boasts miles of shallow beaches and is a dark blue color (looks like something you’d see in the Caribbean). Unfortunately the water temperatures aren’t that of the Caribbean but it’s bearable.
We stayed in a condo for a week with some wonderful friends. My gal pal, Cherie, is one of the best chefs on the planet. It’s tradition to do a shrimp boil while at the lake.
It’s really quite easy to do. Simply boil water (she uses a turkey fryer), then add shrimp, corn on the cob, potatoes, sausages, lemons, onions and some spices.
Here’s the fun part. Cherie bought the disposable white table clothes from Costco (they are paper on top and lines with a thin layer of plastic), then “dumped” all the food in the middle of the tables. Everyone ate with their hands! (We had our own little serving of cocktail sauce, sour cream and butter in front of us on the table cloth!)
Also, Bear Lake is totally famous for their raspberry shakes. Yummy!
Steve bought a new tube called Super Mable. It was very popular with the kids and what the heck, I tried it out to. I think I have a slight case of whip lash but it was worth it!
The view from the house was amazing. There was a three hour lightening storm one night (and a beautiful rainbow showed up right on the middle of the storm).
I’m getting a little sad. Only three more weeks to play with my kids. We have a few more fun things planned. Like a “girls only” camping trip!
Hope summer is treating you right!
Lisa
P.S. I can’t wait to share with you what Collin’s been up to!

Wow! What a beautiful place–that's more like Hawaiian blue water!!! But cold? How funny.
And I have always wanted to eat that shrimp boil food ever since I saw it on Steel Magnolias!!! ha. You'd think living in the South, I would have had it by now. I'll just go with y'all next year. hee.hee.
Glad y'all had fun.
We just got back from Bear Lake tonight and plan on going back in a couple of weeks with the whole family. So gorgeous and relaxing up there! The shrimp boil sounds YUM!
Thanks for the updates. BTW, something is going on with your blog – there doesn't seem to be a feed anymore (at least that's what Bloglines is telling me when I try to re-subscribe), so I'm not getting updates. I have to remember to stop by and see what's going on…
Hi Lisa,
Did Collin make it to the Boy Scout Jamboree? My son is there and we had the chance to visit him yesterday as we live here in VA. What a once in a life time experience. So proud of our scouts and the commitment they make.
enjoy your week!

Here in the south it's called 'low country boil'
Wow that does look so beautiful…does not even look like a lake. Wishing I were there. Enjoy your summer.
aww I Love Bear Lake!! and I haven't had a chance to go over this year.
You have made me very homesick. I grew up in Rich County and lived just a short ride through Laketown Canyon in Randolph. We spent many a summer day at Bear Lake and yes it is cold! And those awesome raspberries! No other place on the planet has raspberries that good!
I now live in Kentucky and haven't been "home" in 15 years but do plan to take the time to visit it again very soon.
I know that your family as well as Stacy Julians family had a very special time at Bear Lake!
Ha Ha. The first time my husband did a shrimp boil for us I freaked out when he dumped it out on the table (we use newspapers). Now I love being able to roll up the newspaper after everything is gone and throw it away. No dishes to do! We also add garlic cloves, crab legs and Lil' Smokies. My husband just asked me what I wanted for my birthday dinner and I said a shrimp boil.
I love Bear Lake too. It's so beautiful there.
BTW, I saw you at the Clasby wedding reception and you looked so cute!
