I'm Taking Off for Spring Break and some Photos that will put a Smile on your Face.
I just had to show you some of Sage's other fairy photos. Robin Johnson made it so magical for each girl. It was as if they were in an enchanted forest or garden.

I'm going to have some of the pictures made into canvases. Let me know which canvas collage you like the most! I'm having a hard time deciding.
Number 1:

Number 2.

Number 3.

This is a closeup of the flower scene!

Well I'm off for a week of Spring Break. We'll be in Maui. If you're there, please find me and say hi.

Hope Spring is here soon. It snowed in my neck of the woods today!

My Top 10 of Maui!
I'm finally back for a while! Life has been pretty hectic but I finally feel like I can breath! So--Maui was really one of the best vacations we've ever had. (I know! I know! I say that about all of them.) Okay--it was one of the most relaxing trips I've ever had. Our condominium looked right out over the beach and ocean and the only thing we had to worry about was eating, sleeping, having fun, eating, sleeping, having fun!

Here are our top 10:

1. Steve and I have never been big snorkelers. We've tried it several times and he gets claustrophobic and I get nauseous. But--we were determined to show our kids the fine art of snorkeling so we tried it again. And--it actually was kinda fun! We saw lots of cool stuff under the water and some strange looking creatures above the water. (Oh--that's us!) Brecken loved it the most of all of us!

2. The sunsets in Maui are simply stunning. We stood in awe every evening as the sun went down.

3. The hikes are out of this world. Beautiful rain forests, waterfalls, fun bridges to cross--love hiking! (This plank bridge was actually really scary--it was rickety and far from the ground!)

4. Sage's favorite part were the trees--perfect for climbing!

5. There is a windy drive called "The Road to Hana." It's suppose to be the most beautiful drive in the world and the scenery looks like this pretty much the entire trip. There are several waterfalls along the way that were fun to jump in. The town called Hana is very backwoods Hawaiian. Loved it!

6. The sand in Maui is possibly the best in the world for making sandcastles. Sage made a little friend and all my kids had a blast building forts and castles. And, she also wrote a note to send to Kade.

7. Brecken, Stefyn and I were all big readers on the trip. I read The Hunger Games (couldn't put it down!) and Brecken became obsessed with The Last Song. She finished the last few chapters on the plane going home (it was in the middle of the night) and sobbed so hard I thought she was going to wake everyone up on the plane!

8. Steve taught us how to play beach baseball. We also played in the water, caught some rays in the sun and snoozed in the sand.

9. The first morning we were there, this beautiful rainbow beamed across the water.

10. While Steve and I loved every minute of our trip, our hearts were a little empty without Kade. We took this picture for him while we were there. When he saw the picture he wrote: "I'm jealous that you all were in Hawaii. But, there's nowhere I'd rather be than in North Carolina for the next two years. I look forward to going with the family in two years!" Yep--we miss the guy but wouldn't want him to be anywhere else either.

So that is our trip in a nutshell. If you go to Maui, let me know. I'll tell you all our favorite places to eat and things to see and do.

I'll write again soon--promise.

Sincerely,

Lisa

One Little Daffodil!
Sorry about the long delay in posting. We are in the middle of "building" a new site and this is our interim release. Sorry about my blog being down for a few days--hopefully all the kinks have been worked out.

This week has been a little tough. On Monday morning, I got the sad news that Gabe DeBois, the adorable 8-year-old boy you all sent dollar bills and cards to in December, passed away. The journal entry to his final hours on earth are written beautifully by his step dad. You can go here to read it. God be with you 'til we meet again, Gabe!

I've also been going through some severe health problems with some close friends--so I've been a little down about all that.

Then, holy cow, there's the awful weather here in Utah. It's been snowing and freezing for almost a week! Does this really happen in May?

In the middle of all of this, Sage came running in the house one day and said, "Mom, Mom! The daffodil I planted last September came up and it has yellow flowers on it! I immediately went outside and checked it out. Yes--Sage's lone flower was blossoming amid the freezing temperatures.

What a wonderful, subtle reminder that life is good and there are always unexpected surprises and good things at every turn.

Like these great things that happened this week:

We were able to get both sets of parents out of the house for a day (quit a feat for both fathers) and went on a private tour via golf cart of the Thanksgiving Point Tulip Festival. We were lucky to go on a fairly nice day.

The tulips, as you can see from the photos, are simple amazing. If you ever come to Utah, you MUST visit these gardens. It's comparable to Butchart Gardens or Longwood Gardens.

There is a huge, man-made waterfall in one part of the gardens. Nestled on one of the "cliffs" was this owl (her wingspan is four feet!) sitting and protecting her new babies!

There also was this Canadian goose who was protecting her soon to be hatched eggs. Cool stuff!

A week ago, my hubby and I hosted a half marathon with benefits going to the new Museum of Natural Curiosity (children's museum) at Thanksgiving Point which is in the early stages of being built. I was so thankful for a nice day (the snow hadn't begun falling yet) . . .
And 650 runners who showed up at the crack of dawn for the race. I trained for it thinking it was a 5K. When I found out it was a 13-mile half marathon, I threw in the towel and said "forget it!" I still want to run a 5K someday.

And here's to the three girls who won the female portion of the race! They did it in around 1 1/2 hours. Go girls! We are going to make this an annual event, so start training now!

Another cool thing. My gal pal, Janette, has a daughter just graduating from high school. I was privileged to go to the signing "ceremony" when she signed the contract for Air Force Academy. She got an amazing scholarship and will play volleyball for them. She's so excited to serve her country and go to such an amazing school. Go, Cami!

I also went to CK's Scrap and Play at the Provo Marriott. This was my first ever crop where I actually scrapbooked. And--it was so much fun to be a student! A lot less pressure than a teacher. I'll post photos and tell more about it and all the fun projects.

And--I went to the performance of my favorite comedian last night. Jason Hewlett is a simply jaw-dropping impersonator/musician/comedian. He's also a great friend. Go here to see if he's performing in your town.

So, as you can see, life is good. I'm lucky to be surrounded with great people and things in my life. And--I just feel it. Better weather has just got to be a few days away.

I'll write again real soon!

Lisa

P.S. Only seven more days until I get to talk to my missionary! The countdown is on!
